The biggest misconception people have about Stay At Home Mums is (I think) that we sit about watching Jeremy Kyle and Trisha all day long, painting our toe nails and drinking coffee. I'd like to put the record straight here and now. My toe nails were painted the other night by my niece, with a tasteful blue nail varnish from a High School Musical beauty set, which will now NOT come off with my nail varnish remover. I drink more tea than coffee and the only time I get to watch my choice of TV programmes is when the girls are in bed. The delights I get to watch are as follows:
Grandpa in my Pocket - Smug, self-satisfied old Grandpa (James Bolam) and grandson Jason Mason see off the harmless baddies by shrinking Grandpa with a magic cap. Always ends with them high-fiving and saying "Teamwork!"
Green Balloon Club - Eco warrier kiddies and Nature Chris and Skye fly around in a hot air balloon looking at nature and singing songs. The best song is It's A Dog's Life where you can see Nature Chris doing the doggy paws movements and wondering how his career brought him here.
Endless shows where adults dress up in oversized animal suits - ZingZillas, Tweenies, Fimbles, TeleTubbies, In The Night Garden.
Something Special - This is great. Justin is solely responsible for teaching Taya to sign CAKE.
Come Outside - I LOVE this one! Auntie Mabel and Pippin fly around and show us how the stripes are put into toothpaste, all about snails and how letters get delivered. There's one genius episode about sewage where Auntie Mabel picks up Pippin's poo and flushes it down the toilet.
Same Smile - a show "celebrating diversity". Urgh. I hate this one the most. The woman can't say anything without ending with a giggle or "YEAHHH!"
The shows I don't mind all happen to be on the Nick Jr channel which means LOTS of adverts, but Peppa Pig, Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom, Humf and Dora The Explorer all get my vote. We love the deadpan delivery of Miss Rabbit / Nanny Plum.
Don't get me started on Sarah Jane Honeywell, how Wayne Jackman seems to write every other kids program that is aired and the many wrongs of Balamory. In any case, the cult of Disney Princesses seems about to take over so I can moan about that next.
Ah,Ah! I was planning to write a post about the truth on what we get up to during the day... The worst thing for me is the feeling guilty about letting her watch TV... Grew up in a house where TV is considered a bit evil! But If I need to do something other than reading for the 57th time the Disney Princess Essential Guide (AARRRGGHHHH, feel my pain, how did that happen when I only bought her beautifully drawn and written quality books... Same thing with the pink, when did she ever discover that?!)...
I do beg to differ on the Zingzillas though and on Big and Small...Can't stand Grandpa in my pocket though...
